No more scary monsters today just beautiful wildflowers. This is a Crane’s-bill Geranium called Geranium endressii that is in flower today. I don’t know much about this one. I identified it with a little help from my friends and set about trying to learn about it
There are various hybrids that are popular with gardeners. I found a good web site where you can buy a picture of Geranium endressii for just £15 but I wouldn’t bother, just right click and save as, my pictures are better and you can get a Hornet while you are here also for free.
I am not sure that this isn’t just a garden escapee although there were no gardens close by I have noticed that birds can fly.
Whatever it is I hope that I see it again.
Here in Northwestern Ontario, we have the related Geranium bicknellii, which grows wild and blooms in the late spring. I have a photo of the plant on my blog if you’re interested: http://newfenees.wordpress.com/2014/06/11/wildflower-wednesday-3/ Yours looks like it has a larger flower and fuller leaves…

We do, particularly in this part, where three of North America’s major zones meet. It’s a magical place in the world. But every area has its own beauty and interest, not the least of which is the Forest of Dean!

Hi Colin,
I’m working on a digital design using one of your photos. I will be posting it shortly. I hope you like what I did with it. I don’t want to mess up your photography!

Very nice.
This flower fits an image of mine which I had trouble identifying, so once again, thank you for much for the name.

Thank you Clare. I haven’t been able to find out if this has naturalised or if I am looking at a chance escapee. I am still working on it.
